North Carolina health care providers filed a lawsuit today challenging several provisions in Senate Bill 20, a sweeping law that severely restricts access to abortion from the earliest stages of pregnancy and bans care after 12 weeks in nearly all circumstances.
This week, the NC Bar Association canceled a drag trivia night fundraiser featuring drag performers, saying the event would be seen as a political statement. ACLU of North Carolina Legal Foundation’s legal director Kristi Graunke shared the following statement.
Both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly have voted to override Governor Cooper’s veto of Senate Bill 20, which bans abortion after only 12 weeks of pregnancy and imposes significant restrictions on abortion throughout pregnancy.

Both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly have passed Senate Bill 20, a ban on abortion after only 12 weeks of pregnancy. The bill will now go to Governor Roy Cooper, who has vowed to veto the legislation.
