Dustin Chicurel-Bayard joined the ACLU of North Carolina as our Communications Director in August 2020. Dustin is a communications and policy professional with more than 12 years of experience with non-profit organizations in progressively senior roles.
Before joining the ACLU of North Carolina, Dustin served as the interim director for the North Carolina Sierra Club. He worked as the communications director for the Southern Coalition for Social Justice where he helped advance legal, organizing, and advocacy efforts on issues related to voting rights, justice reform, and youth justice. Dustin has also served as the communications director for the North Carolina Sierra Club, project coordinator for Blueprint North Carolina, and as a community organizer.
Dustin studied Communications Studies and Political Science at Appalachian State University and Environmental Communications at Duke University’s Environmental Leadership Program. Born and raised in North Carolina, Dustin is driven to push our state to live up to its motto - Esse Quam Videri - which means "to be rather than to seem."
