Irena Como is Senior Staff Attorney with the ACLU of North Carolina. She works on litigation, advocacy, and public education on a broad range of civil rights issues, including criminal legal reform, immigrants' rights, and the school-to-prison pipeline.
Prior to joining the ACLU of North Carolina in 2016, Irena was a juvenile defender with the Legal Aid Society representing youth in New York City for seven years.
Irena graduated with a B.A. from Earlham College in 2004, M.A. from Central European University in Social Anthropology in 2005, and J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 2008. She is fluent in Albanian, Italian and Spanish.
