The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina (ACLU-NC) is looking for a few dedicated volunteers to help guide our organization by serving on our board. If you are passionate about defending civil rights and challenging social injustice, consider applying to help us continue the fight.
Founded by a small group of North Carolinians passionate about social change in 1965, the ACLU-NC has become the state’s leading defender of peoples’ rights and liberties. We continue the legacy of fighting for racial and social justice by defending and expanding civil rights and liberties in communities throughout the state. The fight for justice and equity may look different than it did decades ago, but the core principle guiding our work has remained the same. We seek passionate, driven North Carolinians with diverse backgrounds and experiences to join our board of directors and help guide the ACLU-NC as we maintain our role as a leader in the fight for justice.
If you feel you are the right person to join our board, please apply using our online application. If you are interested but need more information, see the board member roles and responsibilities summary. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
The ACLU-NC places a high priority on promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging for its staff and volunteer leadership. We strongly encourage all qualified individuals to apply—especially people of color, women, people from low-income backgrounds, people with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and people who are formerly incarcerated or otherwise directly impacted by the criminal legal system.
