The People’s University: Not Yo Mama’s Civics & Policy 101

August 31, 2021 @ 6:30 pm

Whether subtle or overt, our days are filled with reminders of the overwhelming role that the government plays in our lives.

We know that Black and Brown people and communities are overpoliced and at constant risk of violence. We also know that our society was created in ways that make access to power and resources inaccessible to non-white communities.

However, much like these systems and structures were created, they can be dismantled and recreated to be more just and equitable. That’s where you come in.

The ACLU of North Carolina is launching The People’s University with the goal of connecting community members, engaging in shared learning, and cooperating to create systemic changes that challenge injustices. Do we have your attention?

Things you should know about The People’s University:

  • It’s free.
  • It’s a 6-part program that covers topics from Civics 101 to Abolishing the Criminal Legal System, with lots in between.
  • The programs take place online, once a month, and the program instructors will make sure you have everything you need to take what you learn in the online classroom and be prepared to put that learning into action.
  • The first program starts on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 6:30 pm. So, sign up today!
