Summary

Across our state and across the country, reckless ICE and CBP operations have inflicted fear and lasting harm on immigrant families and entire communities.

Despite public outcry, ICE and CBP violence has only continued to escalate. In 2026 so far, at least 17 people have died in ICE custody. Since the start of the second Trump administration, over 40 people have died in immigration detention. These deaths are rising and now occur at a rate of roughly one every six days — the deadliest in decades.

We now know critical details about ICE's detention expansion plans, including that GEO Group, a private, for-profit prison corporation, proposed reopening the Rivers Correctional Facility in Winton, North Carolina as an ICE detention center.

We cannot allow a detention facility to open in North Carolina without a fight.

Join us outside the North Carolina General Assembly on May 26 at 2:00PM for a press conference and rally to demand that our lawmakers publicly condemn any plans to expand ICE detention in North Carolina and take all actions within their power to keep this cruelty out of our state and end ICE and CBP terror.
