This week a federal court overturned North Carolina’s dangerous and unconstitutional law that bans abortion after 20 weeks, thanks to a lawsuit we filed along with Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights.

The ban was written by politicians to intimidate doctors and interfere in a woman’s personal medical decisions, ignoring the unique circumstances, challenges, and potential complications that pregnant people face.

Thanks to you, we were able to defeat North Carolina’s dangerous and unconstitutional abortion ban in court

We challenged this restriction because we know that important medical decisions throughout different points of a woman’s pregnancy must be left to the woman and her doctor — not politicians.

North Carolina’s ban prevented doctors from providing needed care to patients, denied women the ability to make decisions about their own bodies, and prevented some women with fewer resources from accessing treatment at all.  Monday’s court ruling affirmed that people have a constitutional right to make their own decisions about their pregnancy — but we know the fight for reproductive freedom is far from over.

We expect extremist lawmakers to continue attacking our constitutional right to abortion and enacting more restrictions. Your support of the ACLU allows us to continue fighting these harmful and unnecessary restrictions on people’s personal medical decisions.

Thanks for fighting with us.
