Politicians in the North Carolina General Assembly announced today that they would advance an abortion ban through the state legislature in the coming days which would eliminate access to care after only 12 weeks of pregnancy.

The North Carolina General Assembly has filed HB533, legislation that would ban abortion. The ACLU of NC condemns forced pregnancy, which impacts anybody seeking reproductive care and eliminates bodily freedom.

“Abortion is a legal medical procedure and politicians have no business intruding on a person's private and personal health care decisions," said ACLU of NC Executive Director Chantal Stevens.
