HB 636: Banning Books in Schools

This bill severely restricts the books that can be added to public school libraries and allows parents and county residents to sue public schools that violate these book-banning bills.

This bill requires public schools to adopt a policy for selecting library books that includes a review process where community members can object to recommended books. It bans books from public schools that include any descriptions or visual depictions of sexual activity or are "pervasively vulgar."

This bill also allows parents and legal guardians of students and county residents to take legal action against public schools.
