Last December we along with The North Carolina Justice Center filed a petition with the North Carolina DMV for being inconsistent, unfair, and discriminatory with the issuance of full-term licenses to legal presence residents in North Carolina. Our clients were being denied driver's licenses or given limited-term licenses though they lawfully should have received full-term licenses.
DMV reverses policy, affirms full-term licenses for certain non-citizens
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a declaratory ruling establishing that immigrants of permanent and indefinite status are entitled to full-term driver’s licenses under North Carolina law.
