The Western Chapter of the ACLU of North Carolina is to hold its 2026 Annual Celebration and Award Ceremony, where the Evan R. Mahaney Champion of Civil Liberties Award will be presented to the League of Women Voters of Henderson County, in recognition of its enduring commitment to voter engagement and civic participation.

The League of Women Voters of Henderson County has played a critical role in registering voters, expanding ballot access, distributing trusted nonpartisan information to voters, monitoring local government, and hosting public education events on issues ranging from public education and immigration to voting rights and sustainable growth.

While strictly nonpartisan, the League of Women Voters has consistently championed policies that strengthen democracy, including adequate public-school funding and expanded early voting, and has tirelessly advocated against restrictive laws and policies that discourage voter participation, including partisan gerrymandering of electoral districts.

We hope that you'll join us for an afternoon of celebration and recognition for those who work hard to protect and expand civil rights and liberties in Western North Carolina. A hot catered lunch will be served. RSVP is not required for attendance.
