The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a declaratory ruling establishing that immigrants of permanent and indefinite status are entitled to full-term driver’s licenses under North Carolina law.

ACLU of North Carolina executive director Chantal Stevens shared the following statement after the North Carolina House passed House Bill 10.

Community groups filed an administrative complaint on behalf of the Hispanic Liaison of Chatham County/El Vínculo Hispano.

“For years, immigrant advocates and community members have raised the alarm about the horrific conditions, reports of abuse, and serious medical neglect at the Alamance County jail," said Stefania Arteaga, regional immigrants' rights strategist for the ACLU of North Carolina.
