The ACLU of North Carolina opposes this bill because it forces doctors to give medically inaccurate information about abortions and puts healthcare in the hands of politicians, not physicians. This bill, like HB 53/SB 52, would force doctors to give patients medically inaccurate information that a medication abortion can be “reversed” through a hormone injection. In addition, this bill goes even further to require physicians to prove that “fetal death” has occurred before the medication abortion can be completed, which will force the patient to make multiple, medically unnecessary visits to her medical provider- a direct contradiction to FDA protocol.
